01Overview

Dilani Kaushalya is an Assistant Lecturer and Laboratory Facilities Coordinator at UCL, with more than four years of experience in higher education teaching. She holds a BSc in Natural Science from the Open University of Sri Lanka and an MSc in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Colombo, and teaches chemistry and biochemistry at foundation and diploma level.

Her research covers analytical chemistry, biosensor development and biochemical and phytochemical analysis. It includes a low-cost fluoride riboswitch-based whole-cell biosensor for detecting fluoride in drinking water, and antioxidant, antibacterial and mineral analysis of selected Sri Lankan plant species.

I believe that students learn most effectively when they are actively engaged in the learning process.
