Looking back at the one-year journey of UCL, it is not an exaggeration
to say that it has achieved tremendous success within a short period
of time. Apart from giving the students a direct entry pathway to one
of the top 100 universities in the world, UCL succeeded in producing
five world toppers in the year 2016. In the first semester itself Binura
Gunasekara and Malisha Samarasekara were able to win the world
prizes for: Computing for Engineers and Chemistry, respectively.
Summarising Diploma performances in the first term; 100% pass rate
was achieved in 7 units out of 9 units delivered. Continuing its
success, UCL students were yet again successful in attaining three
further world prizes in the second term. The three world prizes were obtained by: Randhita Nanayakkara -
Microeconomics, Anuradha Adikaram - Microeconomics and Ashfaq Ahamed - Physics. Similar to the first term, second
term also had 100% pass rate in 12 units out of 18 units delivered. The pass rates and the outcome of the examinations
reveal the standard and the professionalism in the manner in which exams are conducted.
What makes UCL different from other tertiary institutes is that it gives the students a unique opportunity of a guaranteed
entry to Monash University which has the academic ranking of 79 among world universities in 2016. In addition, with the
foundation year (MUFY) offered at UCL, students are provided with the opportunity to continue their studies at any

In her message on the first anniversary of UCL, Jo Mithen CEO, Monash College, Melbourne,
Australia said, “It’s my great pleasure actually to be able to send a message of recognition for UCL on
the celebration of their first anniversary as the provider of Monash College programmes in Colombo,
Sri Lanka. UCL set-out just over a year ago with the vision to provide outstanding education in a first-
class facility in the middle of Colombo in support of students from Sri Lanka attempting to study
overseas. And Monash College has been very proud to partner with UCL in achieving that vision. We
are very excited that a mere 12 months later, there are close to 150 students enrolled across the
entire product offering. And in addition to that the academic performance of the students who are
partway through the programme is exceptionally strong. With pass rates above 90% and a high
number of students achieving both distinctions and higher-distinctions in their subjects. Monash University is one of the
world’s top 100 universities, so academic excellence is something which we encourage and celebrate. And it’s a wonderful
testament to the investments and the commitment of UCL that their results have been so strong in just a space of one
year. So on behalf of the entire team at Monash College and Monash University, I like to congratulate the team on a job
well done. I like to wish the students the very best of luck. And we look forward to seeing you here in Melbourne in some
future date. Thank you!”
